Creative Writing Essays

To encourage student-inmates to reflect on their personal journeys and share their stories, those housed in Prison School are invited to take part in our annual Creative Writing Competition. Every year, student-inmates are given different topics to reflect and write a story on. Explore the top entries written over the years by clicking on the titles of the posts below.

I WOULD TELL ANYONE
WHO WANTS TO START WRITING TO JUST GIVE IT A SHOT & EXPRESS YOURSELF.

I wanted to enter this competition because I have not touched a pen in many years. I thought that entering this competition is a way to redeem myself and do something truly beneficial for myself.  I enjoyed the process of brainstorming, reflecting about who I was and what I want to become. I never liked to write or thought I could do it, now I know I can. So, I would tell anyone who want to start writing to just give it a shot and express yourself.

REFLECTION BY TOP-ENTRY RECIPIENTS

“Writing has always been a way for me to express my feelings. Thankfully, SACA has provided such an opportunity to do so through their Creative Writing Competition. This platform allows me to share my experience in dealing with hardship such as losing a loved one. The response from SACA has been encouraging and this motivates me to write even more. I believe it is very important for us to voice out our thoughts and feelings, be it through writing or speaking.”
