As a mother of a 13 year old boy, I strongly believe that moral values should be taught from a very young age. Moral values are what defines you. Everything in life is associated with moral values. Values from where we are young but as we grow, it helps in some ways that it changes our perspective in life. Our values influence our priorities and allow us to make the right decisions. Therefore, I think it is necessary to teach moral values for the all-round development of a person.
I grew up in a household where basic courtesy such as ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’ is very important. My mother was a strong believer in having good manners. She always says that “life is never fair as we cannot expect the same treatment. But I always believe good deeds beget good deeds.” Having good moral values helps us to build good relationships with everyone around us. We are able to have effective communication as we learn how to respect one another’s opinion. As much as body language is important when conversing with another person, the tone of our voice and the way we speak plays a part as well. To be taught moral values from a young age also suggests what kind of upbringing a child has.
I consider myself lucky as I was taught moral education from a very young age. I have always enjoyed that period in school. It was very helpful as I believe that this helps a country to stay peaceful. It would be chaotic if everyone was to be rude and disrespectful. Moral education has taught me to be a civilized person and gave me the ability to understand the principles of right and wrong behaviour. It is rather important so that we can be more productive for our society. Not everyone can be a law-abiding citizen but with a foundation of basic moral values refrain us from always being an angry person. Therefore, it is important to teach moral values especially from a young age.
Having good moral values also helps us in mental health issues especially now that we are in a generation whereby people are being diagnosed with mental issues. Good moral values keep us grounded. As we learn our mistakes and stop pointing fingers towards others may keep us sane in some ways. Moral values help us to grow to be a better person. It will help to differentiate between the good and the bad. Most importantly, it will help us to feel grateful and be more appreciative even in the smallest things.
It is very important to instill good moral values from a very young age. Moral values are not something that can be bought. If we want to be treated fairly, I believe that we have to begin with ourselves. Like the quote from Roger Moore, “Teach love, generosity, good manners and some of that will drift from the classroom to the home and who knows, the children will be educating the parents”. So I believe that everyone should know the importance of having good moral values.
