Sparks Newsletters
The inaugural issue of SACA's newsletter was first published in March 1998. Back then, it took the form of an 8-page, black and white endeavour. The aim of the publication was primarily to create public awareness of the needs of and to galvanise public participation in the rehabilitation of discharged offenders. In addition, there was also a felt need for society to be better informed of and to understand the objectives and services of the Association.
Since it's inception, SACA's newsletter underwent two subsequent facelifts. But with effect from 2004, our bi-annual newsletter FINALLY became a full colour 6-page spread! In line with its new look, a contest was held to get our readers to help rename the newsletter. "SPARKS" was eventually chosen because it signified a fresh new start and sparks are also associated with energy and excitement. Due credit must be given to VAO, Peggy Leong, for that brilliant suggestion!
As the editor of "SPARKS", I endeavour to use the newsletter as a platform to not only inform the public of SACA's work among ex-offenders, but I also seek to comment on the current rehabilitation scene as well as to be the "voice" of the very clients that we assist.
I welcome any feedback, suggestions or contributions (articles, letters, poems, drawings, testimonials) from our VAOs and clients, for creative input in the subsequent issues of "SPARKS". You can email me at nathalyn@saca.org.sg or send it via snail mail to 81 Dunlop Street, Singapore 209408.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Yours Sincerely,
Nathalyn
