Groupwork with the Inmates

Every month, social workers conduct 3 group sessions for inmates who are due to be emplaced the following month. During these sessions, topics such as Self-Awareness, Budgeting, Preparation for Release and Self-Esteem are covered. It is hoped that through these groupwork sessions, clients are encouraged to share their experiences and learn from each other.

Individual Sessions

Apart from the group sessions, individual sessions are conducted to allow the social workers to gain a more thorough understanding of the client and her relationship with her family. Clients who may have felt awkward or shy sharing during the group sessions would now be able to bring up issues or voice their concerns in a one-to-one setting.

Groupwork with the Family

Concurrent to the sessions conducted for the inmates, a group session is also arranged with the family members. During the group session, the families of the inmates are given the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the programme. For example, doubts and queries with regards to the electronic monitoring device are addressed. Issues such as the difficulties faced during and after a loved one's incarceration are also discussed.
